A group of IT techies and digital geeks, after riding on a bus for four days around Florida introducing a new Street Teams application for Newt Gingrich’s campaign, realized that the biggest issue affecting the United States and the economy the next few years is the freedom of growth on the Internet. According to research from McKinsey & Company, “The Internet accounted for 21% of the GDP growth in mature economies over the past 5 years. … If Internet were a sector, it would have a greater weight in GDP than agriculture or utilities.” The research goes on to say, that the internet creates 2.6 jobs for every job it destroys.
The biggest threat to economic growth and the future of not only the US Economy, but the internet business as whole is Lamar Smith and others like him who have consistently voted in lock step with the Entertainment industry, such as the Entertainment Software Association. That’s why the group of guys decided to reach out to their democratic friends to create a Political Action Committee called The Alliance for Internet Freedom, which has not existed up until this time. The PAC is equivalent to the NRA on the Conservative side and Blue Dog on the Liberal side.
The group launched the PAC the first week of April; and already has about 200 attendee’s for an online Rally on Facebook on Tuesday, April 10th. The group is using a new technology called RFID, Radio Frequency Identification, which is a system that transmits the identity of an object or person wirelessly, using radio waves; as means of campaigning. Students at UT Austin and Texas State in San Marcos will be able to use a RFID tag they can wear as a wrist band to trigger messages of support for The Alliance’s campaign to Defeat Lamar Smith and encouraged users to upload photos and “Like” The Alliance Facebook page and launch a call to action in real time.
Lamar smith has talked about using technology against technology and the group is accepting that as a challenge and is going to use technology to fight Lamar Smith
